Tarneeb (طرنيب) is the card game of the Levant: Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Palestine, and every family from there around the world. Play it free in your browser: you and a bot partner against two bots, or a private table for four friends and family. No download, no account.

It is a trick-taking game for two teams of two, partners sitting opposite, with an ordinary 52-card deck and aces high. Each hand the teams bid for tricks; the highest bidder names the trump suit, the tarneeb, and their team has to take at least that many of the 13 tricks.

How to play Tarneeb

  1. Deal. Thirteen cards each, dealt anticlockwise. Play goes to the right, as across the Levant.
  2. Bid. From the dealer's right, bid 7 to 13 tricks for your team, higher than the last bid, or pass. A pass is final. If everyone passes, the cards are dealt again.
  3. Name the tarneeb. The highest bidder names the trump suit and leads the first trick.
  4. Play. Follow suit if you can. If you can't, play any card. The highest trump wins, else the highest card of the suit led.
  5. Score. Made: your team scores every trick it took. Failed: you lose your bid and the other team scores its tricks. Kaboot, all 13 tricks, scores 16.
  6. Win. The first team to 41 points wins. Short on time? Play to 31.

Play with a bot partner

The bots never see your cards. Easy bots misjudge their hands and often play any card; Medium bots bid on their aces, guarded kings and long suits, add what their partner's bid shows, name their longest suit as tarneeb, draw trumps and leave a trick their partner has won alone; Hard bots also count every card played, note who is out of a suit, and lead suits you can trump.
