Play klaverjas online for free

Klaverjassen is the Dutch national card game, and you can play it free in your browser: you and a bot partner against two bots, or a private table for four friends and family. No download, no account.

It is a trick-taking game for two teams of two, partners sitting opposite, with a 32-card deck from 7 to ace. In the trump suit the jack and the nine jump to the top, every card is worth points, and cards that fall together in one trick score roem. The team that chooses trumps has to take more than half of all the points, or it goes nat.

How to play Klaverjassen

  1. Deal. Everyone gets eight cards, dealt three, two and three. No card is turned up.
  2. Choose trumps. From the dealer's left, choose any suit as trumps or pass. If all four pass, the player left of the dealer must choose (verplicht).
  3. Play. Follow suit. Out of the suit you must trump, and over a trump you must go higher. In Rotterdams that applies on your partner's trick too; in Amsterdams you may play another suit when your partner is winning.
  4. Roem. Three cards in a row in one trick are 20 roem, four in a row 50, the king and queen of trumps (stuk) 20, four of a kind 100 and four jacks 200, for the team that takes the trick.
  5. Score. Count card points (162 a deal with the last trick) plus roem. The playing team needs more than half, or it is nat and the other team scores everything. After 16 deals the higher total wins.

Play with a bot partner

The bots never see your cards. Easy bots choose on a hunch; Medium bots weigh their jack, nine and aces before choosing and cash their master cards; Hard bots also count every card played, note who is out of a suit, draw trumps when they play, add roem to tricks their team will take and never hand roem to the opponents if they can help it. Choose Rotterdams or Amsterdams, vrij or verplicht, and a full game of 16 deals or a short one of 8.
