Capsa Banting is what Indonesians call Big 2 (大老二), the climbing card game played from Hong Kong to Jakarta. “Banting” means to slam down, and that is how the game is played at home: a winning five-card hand hits the table hard. Here you can play it free in your browser, with no download, no app and no account.
Play against three computer players at the level you choose, or start a private table and send the link to friends or family, wherever they are. Seats nobody takes are filled by the computer.
Not to be confused with Capsa Susun, where you sort 13 cards into three poker hands. In Capsa Banting you race to get rid of your cards.
How to play Capsa Banting
- Deal. All 52 cards are dealt, 13 to each of the four players.
- Open with the 3♦. Whoever holds the three of diamonds starts, and their first play must include it: alone, as a pair or three of a kind, or in a five-card hand.
- Beat or pass. Each player in turn plays a stronger hand with the same number of cards (a single, a pair, three of a kind or a five-card hand), or passes.
- Take control. When the other three pass, the last player to play clears the table and leads anything they like.
- Win. The first player to play their last card wins. The others lose points for each card left in their hand.
Card and suit order
The 3 is the lowest card and the 2 the highest: 3, 4, 5 … 10, J, Q, K, A, 2. When two cards have the same rank, the suit decides: diamonds (wajik) are lowest, then clubs (keriting), hearts (hati) and spades (sekop). The 2♠ is the one card nothing can beat.
Five-card hands rank like poker: a straight, then a flush, a full house, four of a kind with any fifth card, and the straight flush on top. Any five-card hand can answer any other five-card hand if it ranks higher.
The rules on this table
This is the most common way Capsa Banting is played in Indonesia, and it is exactly how Big 2 is played elsewhere, so a game here is recorded with your Big 2 stats. Some groups let four of a kind “bomb” a single 2; on this table four of a kind is a five-card hand, and a 2 can only be beaten by a higher 2.
