How to Play Big 2

Big Two rules, cheat sheet and strategy guide for the classic Asian card game

What is Big 2?

Big 2 (Chinese: 大老二, Dà Lǎo Èr) is one of the most popular card games in Asia, also known as Deuces, Big Two, or Cho Dai Di in Cantonese. The game is played with 4 players using a standard 52-card deck.

The name "Big 2" comes from the fact that the 2 is the highest-ranking card in the game, not the Ace. Players race to be the first to empty their hand by playing increasingly powerful card combinations.

Whether you call it Big 2, 大老二, Deuces, or Cho Dai Di, this guide will teach you everything you need to know to play and win!

Pair

Two cards of the same rank. Higher pair beats lower pair.

Example: K♠ K♥

Triple

Three cards of the same rank.

Example: 9♠ 9♥ 9♣

Winning Strategies

  • •Save your 2s: They're powerful but can be bombed. Use them strategically late in the game.
  • •Build 5-card hands: Straights and flushes let you dump multiple cards at once.
  • •Control the lead: Winning rounds lets you choose the combination type, giving you an advantage.
  • •Count cards: Track which high cards and 2s have been played to know what's still out there.
  • •Pass strategically: Sometimes it's better to pass and save your cards for a better opportunity.
  • •Watch for bombs: Four of a kind can beat any single 2 — save them for crucial moments!
